Sounds great; Saturday afternoon through Sunday. I have both shows, but this just in: I may have to GROK in spirit once again (out of town, with possibility of no 'connection').

Nonetheless, spiritually, I'll be there...will check in on the third nominee.

I sat the first one out, knowing I'd never be able to wriggle free from odious in-law obligations...but gave 12/30/69 a play Sunday morning.

Sorry about your upcoming obligations...but glad you'll be with us in spirit.

Peace.

Fantastic Idea. For another show, I suggest 10-29-77 for all it has done for us.

Is this something we are going to start Saturday noon and go all night or stop Sat night and continue Sunday morning?

mudcatbluz - that last question is for you.

Cush & Wineland were discussing a noon start date. Cush suggested grokking both of the (so far) nominated shows: 9/20/70 (Will Tell's) & 2/15/73 (Great & Knowledgeable's). With such an early start time, and the possibility of running both shows, taking this a step further seemed an intriguing direction. As for how long to grok-a-athon this thing, who knows? I figure that will sort itself out as folks weigh in & this thing unfolds. They're (y'all) the ones calling the shots.

Since it appears a multi-show format is what's being discussed, it just occurred to me that we may be able to accomidate more participants who wouldn't otherwise be able to jam from, say, noon till three. I just keep remembering Chris F.'s post from just after the 12/30/06 grok: "I feel like I just slept through Woodstock..."

The original concept behind this thread was to break free from the bullshit that's been dogging this site lately...and get on with some healing & back to the exchanges and community that drew us to the Dead in the first place. One would think that if we have the power to spend hours at back-biting, we also have the power to NOT.

As for hours, timeframes & all that...what do you folks out there think?

I just had a great epiphany. Not sure how this could work because I haven't done a podcast before, but I am sure we could figure it out. For those that will be away from their internet connection someone could podcast the grok shows prior to the event. Then we could go and download them to our mp3 devices (or possibly burn to cd?). The benefit to this would be for those that don't have the show and aren't going to be connected to the internet could participate in the car, airplane, or while hiking in the woods. Has anyone done a podcast before?

Sorry, I am no help on the casting question, BUT I agree, especially given my potential web connection limitation, that getting them set in the next few days, that is, which three we will do (I am all for 9-20-70, 2-15-73 and the 77 show) since I can burn them (have two already) and be good to go on Sat and Sun...

Mud--will you give a day or so more, and then formalize via a brannew post? Don't mean to be 'electing' you to do this, but seems you're driving this bus at this point...glad to take the wheel if need be...

Thanks Mud et al. for chiming in...

I did a little research and here are the shows to either d/l or stream and my picks if there were more than one streaming option:

9.20.70
My pick of the 2 versions: http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-09-20.aud.remaster.sirmick.27583.sbeok.shnf

2.15.73
Only one version: http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-02-15.sbd.hall.1580.sbeok.shnf

10.29.77
Stream the SBD: http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-10-29.sbd.kempa.280.sbeok.shnf
Download the Aud: http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-10-29.maizner.vernon.8035.sbeok.shnf

This show was also mentioned as a Dr. Flashback approved choice:

I didn't know I was driving the bus so much as cheerleading...even if I haven't got the pom-poms for it. What I'm thinking is a new post in a couple of hours summarizing (& directing later arrivals to) this thread, get some feedback from the evening crew, &, like you suggested, voting/finalizing everything Thurs. or Friday eve.

Yes? No?
